can see parts of the mine and processing plant to give some
perspective to the photo above. This photo was taken on the
road coming down from the Visitor's Center. You can also get
some idea of scale by comparing the size of the dump truck
with the white pickup in front of it.

This is one of the tires off the big dump trucks used at
the Borax Mine. These tires weight 6,000 pounds and are
about 12 feet tall. The big wheel in the tire is Steve.

Lee & Kim, the docents at the Borax Visitors Center.
Before Lee retired from Borax he had worked in most of the
departments. He spent a lot of time standing at the big
window overlooking the plant and mining operations pointing
out what was happening and answering all out questions. Kim
is a High School student from Boron.

This speed limit sign gets your attention and that's the
idea.

This is an original set of twenty-mule team wagons used
to haul borax out of Death Valley. She's hard to see but
Fran is standing next to the rear wheel of the front
wagon... it's taller than she is. Did you know that a twenty
mule team was really 18 mule and two horses? The horses were
the last pair next to the wagon and were needed to control
the mules.
