Travelog Summary

About the first of November 1998, we headed south to enjoy the warmer weather of the Southern California and Arizona deserts.

We spent November and December in Lancaster, California visiting Fran's #1 Son and Daughter in-law and her two Grandsons. We had a nice visit and the weather was great except that it got cold at night.

We spent the first week of January at Salton Sea State Park and toured around the lake. Then went to Yuma Arizona to spend a week visiting friends at Cocopah Bend Resort. Very nice resort, although a little pricey for us, and we had a nice visit with Buddy & Gayle.

We spent two weeks in Quartzsite at the Tyson Wash LTVA. We thought we'd just stay a couple of days but it's so nice there we decided to stay longer! Those who know say that the number of snowbirds is down 40% this year. That may be part of the reason we had such a nice time!

From Quartzsite we spent four days at the State Park at Lake Havasu City . While there we enjoyed the great sunsets, all the animals... rabbits, chipmunks and lots of birds and a beautiful lake.

On February 8th we moved north about 40 miles to Spirit Mountain RV Park in Mohave Valley., Arizona. It's about 3 miles from Needles, California. It's not the best RV park we've stayed at but the rent was cheap and they have instant phone lines at the sites. After about three weeks with no regular internet access we had to stay here.

From our base at Mohave Valley, we visited Oatman, AZ and Kingman AZ, both on historic Route 66.

From Mohave Valley we went south again and stayed three days at River Island state park in Arizona and then returned to BLM land at Quartzsite for five days. From Quartzsite we went on to 29 Palms with a stopover at the General Patton Museum in between. While in 29 Palms we explored Joshua Tree National Park and surrounding area.

From 29 Palms we went north to Callico Ghost Town for two days.

On March 7th, we returned to the Crawford Family Campground in Lancaster, California. Our plan was to layover there for about a week and get caught up on our web sites, e-mail and other chores then work our way slowly back north to Yuba City to arrive around the end of the month.

Well, we stayed there a little longer than planned plus our refigerator died and we wanted to get it fixed in Yuba City by our regular RV tech in case there were any problems. So, we stayed only two days at our home park in Kingsburg, CA before heading back to Yuba City.

We haven't let too much grass grow under the rig since we've returned. We spent a long weekend in Lodi, CA where we met several members of the on-line RV Club for a mini get-together. I think it's safe to say that all of us had a good time.

In April we attended the Escapees' Escapade in Chico, CA. We had a great time. We met old friends we hadn't seen for a while and old friends we had never seen before... friends from the RV Club mailing list.

We've also done a little sightseeing on day-trips.
